About the Role

Miniclip is seeking a motivated and creative Game Designer to join its Design team at the Derby Games Development Studio. This full-time, permanent hybrid role requires a minimum of two days in-office per week.

You will collaborate with a talented team to create engaging player experiences, contributing directly to gameplay systems and level design. Your work will help shape how millions of players interact with Miniclip’s games globally.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Game Design Lead, this role focuses on designing and implementing missions and gameplay content, particularly for action and shooter games. You will work hands-on with Unity and internal tools, refining gameplay through iteration and player feedback.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and implement missions and level content for action/shooter gameplay.
  • Create engaging gameplay experiences focusing on combat flow, pacing, and player readability.
  • Work in Unity and proprietary tools to bring content from concept to polished implementation.
  • Collaborate with designers, engineers, artists, and production teams.
  • Iterate on gameplay based on playtesting, user feedback, and data insights.
  • Develop and refine content for live games, including updates and improvements.
  • Document and communicate design ideas clearly using visual and written formats.
  • Apply free-to-play design principles such as retention, engagement, and monetisation strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional experience as a Game Designer or similar role.
  • Strong experience in mission, level, or gameplay content creation.
  • Background in action or shooter games with knowledge of combat mechanics and encounter design.
  • Hands-on experience with Unity or similar game engines.
  • Understanding of player engagement, retention, and short-session gameplay loops.
  • Familiarity with mobile and free-to-play game design.
  • Experience with iterative development, playtesting, and data-driven improvements.
  • Awareness of player psychology and mobile UX principles.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • A portfolio demonstrating gameplay or level design expertise (preferably in action/shooter games).

Education
