Job Overview

Jam City is seeking a Principal 3D Generalist to join its Narrative Game division and contribute to the development of a brand-new game project. This role requires a versatile artist with strong technical expertise who can support multiple areas of the 3D art pipeline including characters, environments, props, lighting, and shaders.

The ideal candidate combines creative artistry with technical problem-solving skills and is capable of working independently while collaborating closely with art directors, technical artists, and engineers to deliver high-quality assets for mobile game development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality 3D characters, environments, and props optimized for game performance.
  • Light environment scenes using both real-time and pre-baked lighting workflows.
  • Develop shaders using Unity and Maya.
  • Rig and skin characters or props when required.
  • Identify potential technical challenges in concept designs and propose art solutions.
  • Design and establish art pipelines for new features and asset types.
  • Document best practices and workflow standards for the art team.
  • Collaborate closely with the 3D Art Director, technical artists, and engineering teams.
  • Troubleshoot visual or technical issues in Maya and Unity.
  • Participate in occasional in-person meetings when required.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in 3D game development.
  • Experience in modeling, texturing, lighting, rigging, skinning, and shader development.
  • Participation in at least two shipped 3D games, including one mobile title.
  • Advanced proficiency in Maya and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong experience working with Unity.
  • Experience using ZBrush and familiarity with Substance Painter and Substance Designer.
  • Expertise in real-time lighting and light baking workflows.
  • Strong understanding of environment and character art production pipelines.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, composition, color, value, and form for gameplay visuals.
  • Strong problem-solving and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.

Education

A degree in Art, Game Design, Digital Media, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent professional experience with a strong portfolio is also accepted.
