The Role

As a Rive Motion Designer and Animator, you will help transform Rilla’s mobile and desktop product into a joyful, game-inspired experience. You will design engaging UI animations, develop a character universe, and craft immersive motion systems that drive engagement and retention.

  • Design interactive UI animations using Rive, Lottie, and After Effects.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and design teams to implement motion in production.
  • Develop and evolve Rilla’s character systems and motion language.
  • Create animations that inspire users to achieve goals and celebrate wins.
  • Extend motion design into web, marketing, and brand experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build production-ready animations for mobile and desktop applications.
  • Translate brand energy into cohesive motion systems and visual storytelling.
  • Partner with engineers to ensure optimized animation implementation.
  • Integrate motion with sound and haptic feedback for immersive UX.
  • Experiment with AI-powered tools and workflows to accelerate creativity.
  • Push boundaries of interactive product design inspired by game mechanics.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in motion design, interactive media, or game development (or strong portfolio of personal projects).
  • Proficiency in Rive, Lottie, and After Effects.
  • Strong character design skills with AI-augmented creative workflows.
  • Experience collaborating with engineers on implementation and optimization.
  • Understanding of motion, sound, and haptic integration.
  • Passion for game design principles and engaging user experiences.
  • Impeccable taste and strong brand intuition.

Nice to Have:

  • Motion work inspired by platforms like Duolingo or consumer game apps.
  • Performance optimization experience for web and mobile.
  • General 3D skills (modeling, texturing, rigging, animation).

Education

No specific degree required. Strong portfolio demonstrating technical excellence, creativity, and motion expertise is essential.

Compensation & Work Environment

  • Compensation: $60–$100 per hour.
  • Contract role with potential for full-time conversion.
  • Remote flexibility with opportunity to transition to in-person in New York City.
