Job Overview

Cloud Imperium Games is looking for a Senior VFX Artist to join its Manchester studio. In this role,
you will work alongside talented artists and programmers to create high-quality real-time visual effects
for a vast sandbox universe.

You will design and implement a wide variety of effects ranging from epic spaceship battles and
planetary weather systems to futuristic holographic interfaces and environmental details. The role
requires strong artistic vision, technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate closely with
cross-disciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create sci-fi visual effects using Cloud Imperium Games’ real-time VFX editor.
  • Produce textures and mesh assets for real-time effects using tools such as 3ds Max, Houdini, Embergen, and After Effects.
  • Optimize visual effects to ensure strong in-game performance while maintaining high visual quality.
  • Collaborate with VFX programmers to improve visual effects technology and production pipelines.
  • Work closely with Art, Design, and Audio teams to bring the game universe to life.
  • Analyze and replicate high-quality effects inspired by games and cinematic productions.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior VFX artists.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of the artistic and technical fundamentals of real-time visual effects.
  • Experience working with real-time particle systems within a game engine.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to break down complex effects from games and films.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and solve production challenges.
  • Passion for advancing the quality and innovation of real-time VFX in games.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior artists.
