Job Overview

That’s No Moon is seeking a Senior VFX Artist (Project Hire) to craft high-quality volumetrics, environmental effects, and bespoke real-time FX for gameplay and cinematics. In this remote U.S.-based role, you will work with Unreal Engine and industry-leading tools to create photorealistic visual effects that elevate the dynamic nature of AAA game experiences.

This is a temporary project-based position with benefits eligibility. Candidates must be located in North America.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create photorealistic real-time visual effects such as explosions, fire, smoke, clouds, debris, and weapon FX using Unreal Engine and Houdini.
  • Collaborate with Environment, Lighting, Animation, and Design teams to support artistic and gameplay requirements.
  • Ensure VFX assets meet performance, memory, and budget constraints.
  • Partner with Leads and Production to estimate, plan, and track milestone deliverables.
  • Research and implement new workflows while contributing to documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional experience in VFX for games, film, or television.
  • Strong expertise in Unreal Engine, Niagara, and Blueprints.
  • Portfolio demonstrating photorealistic real-time VFX work.
  • Deep understanding of PBR concepts, physics, and in-game VFX performance optimization.
  • Strong artistic eye for volume, energy, timing, density, and dynamic aesthetics.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-discipline team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Houdini, 3ds Max, Maya, or similar tools.
  • Experience with Python scripting.
  • Background in film or television VFX production.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated U.S. base pay range: $130,000 – $155,000.
