Role Overview
The Staff Motion Designer (L6 Motion Design Specialist) operates as a horizontal lead across the entire Gemini App UX ecosystem. This role goes beyond UI animation — it focuses on inventing new motion systems, defining innovative visual languages, and bridging artistic creativity with scalable engineering execution.
This is a high-impact position ideal for a visionary motion designer passionate about AI-assisted workflows, rapid prototyping, and pushing the boundaries of motion design in software.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead motion design strategy across multiple product surfaces within the Gemini App ecosystem.
- Conceptualize and execute boundary-pushing motion concepts that redefine AI interaction.
- Develop scalable motion systems and new visual languages that support design consistency.
- Translate abstract creative ideas into production-ready motion frameworks.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, especially engineering, to ensure high-performance implementation.
- Champion emerging workflows, including AI-assisted prototyping and experimental motion techniques.
- Act as the central authority for motion design standards and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Animation, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Extensive experience as a motion designer with a portfolio demonstrating artistic creativity and systemic thinking.
- Expert-level proficiency in tools such as After Effects, Cinema 4D, Rive, Lottie, Propie, and other motion/prototyping platforms.
- Proven experience collaborating with software engineering teams to implement complex motion systems in production environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading motion direction across multiple teams or large-scale design systems.
- Hands-on experience with AI-driven design tools, creative coding, or rapid prototyping techniques.
- Strong interest in emerging workflows such as “vibe coding” and AI-assisted ideation.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate motion systems and abstract concepts to both creative and technical stakeholders.
