Job Overview

Flying Bark Productions is seeking an experienced Storyboard Artist to join its animation team. In this role, you will work closely with directors and the story department to transform scripts into compelling visual narratives.

The ideal candidate is a strong visual storyteller who can convey emotion, action, and pacing through expressive drawing while collaborating effectively within a production pipeline and meeting project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create clear and engaging storyboards that translate scripts and direction into dynamic visual storytelling.
  • Collaborate with Directors, Storyboard Supervisors, and the Story team to shape sequences and refine narrative beats.
  • Participate in story development meetings, brainstorming sessions, and creative reviews.
  • Communicate character emotion, humor, action, and pacing through expressive drawings and staging.
  • Develop sequences from rough thumbnails through to polished storyboard panels.
  • Work closely with directors to establish camera language, shot composition, and staging.
  • Address story and structural challenges while strengthening scenes and character moments.
  • Incorporate feedback and revisions efficiently while maintaining the overall creative vision.
  • Maintain continuity in character placement, scale, and screen direction across sequences.
  • Follow studio pipeline processes and meet production schedules for deliverables.
  • Communicate proactively with production teams regarding timelines and potential issues.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Professional storyboarding experience on animated television or feature productions.
  • Strong traditional drawing and illustration skills.
  • Excellent visual storytelling ability, including pacing, cinematography, and scene structure.
  • Strong sense of composition, staging, and character performance.
  • Ability to translate scripts into engaging and visually clear storyboard sequences.
  • Strong time management and the ability to meet tight production deadlines.
  • Expert proficiency in Storyboard Pro.
  • Experience incorporating proxy CG sets into storyboards.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing action, character performance, and figure drawing.
