Job Overview
Snail Games USA is seeking a Senior VFX Artist to lead and elevate real-time visual effects across multiple Unreal Engine projects. This role functions as a VFX authority within the Art Center, ensuring high-quality, scalable effects that support gameplay clarity, performance, and artistic vision.
This is not a traditional production role. You will oversee VFX quality across projects, identify risks early, and implement solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and elevate VFX standards across multiple Unreal Engine projects
- Monitor cross-project VFX quality and identify artistic or technical risks
- Develop proactive solutions before escalation to leadership
- Design and implement high-quality real-time VFX from concept to final delivery
- Build scalable and reusable Niagara systems and production pipelines
- Ensure gameplay readability and performance efficiency in combat and environment effects
- Optimize VFX performance including particle counts, shaders, and overdraw
- Provide clear and constructive feedback to distributed global teams
- Create documentation, benchmarks, and best practices
- Support critical project phases with hands-on VFX work when needed
- Collaborate with Design, Animation, Lighting, Engineering, and Technical Art teams
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience delivering real-time VFX in Unreal Engine (UE4 or UE5)
- Strong expertise in Niagara systems and shader/material workflows
- Deep understanding of gameplay readability and visual hierarchy
- Experience optimizing VFX for PC and console performance
- Ability to identify workflow inefficiencies and implement improvements
- Strong communication skills with ability to provide direct feedback
- Comfort working independently in ambiguous environments
- Familiarity with AI tools to accelerate VFX production workflows
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Art, Animation, Game Design, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
