Job Overview

The Senior Technical Animator role bridges the gap between animation and engineering. You will design and maintain animation systems, develop tools and pipelines, and collaborate closely with animators, designers, and engineers to ensure high-quality in-game character performance.

This role also involves defining animation workflows, establishing technical standards, and ensuring seamless integration of animation assets within the game engine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain animation systems, rigs, lip-sync systems, and runtime solutions.
  • Build tools and pipelines to improve animation workflow efficiency.
  • Collaborate with animators to optimize rigs, skeletons, and animation assets.
  • Work with gameplay engineers to integrate animation systems into the game.
  • Optimize animation assets for performance, memory usage, and runtime stability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve animation and rigging issues across the pipeline.
  • Support motion capture integration, retargeting, and procedural animation systems.
  • Establish and document best practices for animation pipelines.
  • Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in technical animation or rigging within the gaming industry.
  • Strong experience with Unreal Engine.
  • Proficiency in Maya or similar DCC tools, including rigging and scripting.
  • Experience with animation state machines, blend trees, and runtime systems.
  • Solid understanding of rigging, skinning, and deformation systems.
  • Knowledge of Python, MEL, C++, or Blueprint scripting.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration abilities.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with motion capture pipelines and retargeting systems.
  • Knowledge of Control Rig, IK systems, or physics-based animation.
  • Experience optimizing animation for PC or console performance.
  • Experience working on shipped AAA or mid-sized game titles.
  • Experience developing animation tools or plugins.
