Job Overview
Roblox is seeking a Senior 3D Artist, Technical to collaborate with engineers, artists, and technical teams in advancing animation systems and tools. This role focuses on pushing the boundaries of real-time animation, rigging, and avatar development across the Roblox platform.
You will play a key role in developing scalable animation solutions, improving workflows, and supporting creators with best practices and tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers to prototype and improve movement and rigging systems
- Act as a subject matter expert in animation and animation technologies
- Design and refine user-centered animation workflows and systems
- Evaluate internal pipelines and recommend improvements based on industry standards
- Review and ensure quality of outsourced animation assets
- Create tutorials and sample content for community and documentation teams
- Engage with external creators to provide guidance and improve workflows
- Support development of animation tools and platform capabilities
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in the game industry across multiple platforms (mobile experience is a plus)
- Strong expertise in real-time engines and animation systems
- Proficiency with tools such as Maya and Blender
- Deep understanding of human motion, timing, squash and stretch, and secondary motion
- Experience with rigging, morph targets, skin weighting, and simulation systems (hair and cloth)
- Ability to design scalable avatar systems including clothing, hair, and shading
- Familiarity with scripting languages and node-based systems (e.g., Unreal Blueprints)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Graphics, Animation, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
