Job Overview

2K is seeking an exceptionally skilled 3D Character Artist for a 12-month temporary onsite position in San Rafael, California. The selected candidate will work with the team specializing in 3D scanning and performance capture, helping build next-generation characters using cutting-edge photogrammetry and character art technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sculpt high-resolution 3D characters from photogrammetry data.
  • Create clean game-ready retopology, UV mapping, and textures.
  • Collaborate with outsourcing partners and internal teams.
  • Work with in-house tools and follow best practices for character rigs and hair grooming.
  • Create convincing real-time 3D hair from photographic references and scan data.
  • Assist with adapting new tools, technologies, and workflows.
  • Perform quality control on models, textures, topology, rigging, animation, and rendering.
  • Produce animation ROM playblast movies for asset reviews.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional experience with Autodesk Maya.
  • Strong experience with organic modeling and character art creation.
  • Ability to self-manage projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and cross-department collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to iterate and refine work based on feedback.
  • Passion for AAA video games and advanced character art technology.
  • Portfolio or website demonstrating strong art and technical skills.

Bonus Skills

  • Understanding of facial anatomy and facial rigging for games.
  • Knowledge of the Facial Action Coding System (FACS).
  • Experience with Wrap3D.
  • Experience contributing to a shipped AAA title.
