Job Overview
Braintrust is seeking a skilled 2D Character Concept Artist for a remote freelance contract. This short-term role (25 hours per week) involves both creating new 2D character concepts and refining existing ones. The ideal candidate will transform detailed character descriptions into compelling, production-ready visual designs aligned with the project’s creative vision.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and refine 2D character concept art for entertainment-focused projects.
- Develop clean orthographic turnarounds (front, side, back, and three-quarter views) at consistent scale.
- Produce emotions sheets and movement cards to support animation workflows.
- Translate detailed character descriptions into visually engaging concepts.
- Apply detailed surface rendering including skin textures, fabric weave, wear and tear, and material properties.
- Collaborate remotely with creative teams to ensure artistic alignment.
- Manage timelines effectively while maintaining high artistic standards.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of professional experience in 2D art and Character Concept Design.
- Strong portfolio showcasing character turnarounds, emotions sheets, and movement cards.
- Proficiency in digital illustration and concept development tools.
- Experience in entertainment, gaming, or animation industries.
- Strong visual storytelling, creativity, and design fundamentals.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a remote work environment.
- Relevant educational background or equivalent professional experience.
- Willingness to both create new character concepts and refine existing ones.
