Job Overview
Daybreak is seeking a Senior VFX Artist for DCUO (DC Universe Online). In this role, you will create dynamic real-time visual effects that bring characters, environments, and gameplay systems to life.
You will collaborate closely with designers, artists, and engineers to design and implement high-quality particle effects, simulations, shaders, and other visual phenomena that enhance storytelling and player immersion across platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement high-quality real-time visual effects for characters, environments, and UI elements.
- Collaborate with art and design teams to align VFX with the overall aesthetic and technical direction.
- Optimize and troubleshoot effects to ensure strong performance across hardware platforms.
- Mentor junior VFX artists and guide best practices in FX production.
- Take ownership of entire features, making confident technical and artistic decisions.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, tools, and emerging technologies in real-time VFX production.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience as a VFX Artist in the game industry.
- Strong portfolio showcasing complex real-time effects (fire, smoke, magic, water, destruction).
- Proficiency with Unreal Engine, Unity, or similar engines.
- Experience with Maya, Substance Designer, and Photoshop.
- Solid understanding of art fundamentals, animation principles, and shader development.
- Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring junior artists.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Bonus Skills
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python or MEL for automation or custom tools.
- Knowledge of game physics and rendering techniques.
- Familiarity with both stylized and realistic art styles.
