As part of its continued growth, Kwalee is expanding its Hybrid Casual Games team and seeking a passionate and experienced Lead Game Artist to help shape the visual identity of upcoming titles.
Job Overview
The Lead Game Artist will lead a small art team in delivering high-quality 2D and 3D art, UI, animations, and VFX for hybrid-casual mobile games. This role involves close collaboration with designers, developers, and production teams to define and execute the visual direction of engaging and polished game worlds.
This is a permanent, full-time position based in Kwalee’s Bangalore studio, requiring on-site collaboration five days per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the creation, scheduling, and implementation of art assets across multiple projects.
- Lead and mentor a small team of artists, providing feedback and supporting career development.
- Create polished 2D/3D art, UI elements, VFX, and animations tailored for hybrid-casual games.
- Produce Spine animations for characters and gameplay assets.
- Maintain a consistent visual style across features, levels, and live-ops content.
- Collaborate with game designers and developers to ensure smooth asset integration in Unity.
- Contribute to ideation, rapid prototyping, and early development iterations.
- Ensure art quality, performance optimization, and clarity meet hybrid-casual standards.
- Report directly to the Art Director.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in mobile game art (hybrid-casual experience preferred).
- Strong expertise in 2D art, 3D modeling, lighting, texturing, animation, VFX, and UI design.
- Experience creating Spine animations for characters and gameplay assets.
- Proficiency in Photoshop, Blender or Maya, and Unity tools.
- Ability to rapidly concept and ideate visuals during fast-paced prototype phases.
- Strong understanding of colour theory, lighting, composition, and shape language.
- Experience creating stylised, clean, and polished hybrid-casual assets.
- Solid understanding of hybrid-casual aesthetics, trends, and visual clarity principles.
- Experience managing small art teams through production and reporting.
- Availability to work on-site in the Bangalore office five days per week.
