Job Overview
Respawn Entertainment is seeking a talented Gameplay Animator to join the Apex Legends animation team. In this hybrid role, you will create immersive, responsive gameplay animations that elevate the player experience in both first- and third-person perspectives.
This position requires strong animation craft skills, experience with motion capture workflows, and close collaboration with designers, engineers, artists, and other cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Create powerful and believable animation performances from initial blocking to final polish.
- Develop gameplay animations in both first- and third-person perspectives.
- Collaborate with motion capture talent, refine mocap data, and implement polished keyframe animations.
- Work closely with Designers and cross-disciplinary teams to ensure responsive, immersive gameplay.
- Maintain communication with production, design, art, audio, and VFX teams.
- Continuously assess and improve workflows and player experience for Apex Legends.
- Contribute to animation systems that enhance style, personality, and game feel.
Qualifications & Skills
- 3+ years of professional game development experience.
- Strong understanding of video game animation pipelines.
- Proficiency in 3D animation software such as Autodesk Maya.
- Experience creating full-body and bipedal animations, including first-person animation knowledge.
- Understanding of motion capture editing, including re-posing, re-timing, and enhancing mocap data.
- Familiarity with animating cameras and understanding of cinematography principles.
- Experience collaborating with Designers, Engineers, and Artists.
- Proactive mindset with ownership of quality and player experience.
