The NBA Tech Art team is a collaborative group of Technical Artists who build tools, rig characters and props, and solve complex production challenges to support high-quality game development.

Role Overview

Visual Concepts is seeking a Temporary Technical Artist specializing in cloth simulation to support the NBA 2K team. In this fully remote role (U.S.-based), you will create realistic clothing simulations optimized for the studio’s proprietary game engine.

Reporting to the Lead Technical Artist, you will collaborate closely with character artists, engineers, and fellow technical artists to refine workflows and enhance the cloth simulation pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up clothing simulations using Havok Cloth software.
  • Utilize proxy meshes, colliders, backstops, and physics settings to achieve realistic results.
  • Test simulations in the game engine and ensure performance optimization.
  • Collaborate with character artists to refine meshes for optimal cloth behavior.
  • Incorporate art direction feedback to meet visual expectations.
  • Identify and improve existing cloth simulation pipelines and workflows.
  • Work closely with engineers and technical artists to solve production challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with Havok Cloth software.
  • Modeling experience for creating proxy meshes.
  • Strong understanding of fabric behaviors (e.g., denim, silk, cotton).
  • Solid foundation in physics and anatomy.
  • Experience writing tools, scripts, or developing pipelines for games or VFX.
  • Working knowledge of Maya.
  • Passion for video games and interactive media.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Marvelous Designer.
  • Proficiency in Python and C#.
  • Experience building tools integrated with Perforce or version control systems.
  • Hands-on scripting and technical workflow refinement experience.
