About the Role
Whatnot is seeking a Lead Motion Designer to help shape the visual identity of one of the fastest-growing livestream commerce platforms in North America and Europe. This role will focus on building engaging 2D and 3D motion experiences for campaigns, launches, and brand storytelling across digital and live experiences.
As part of the creative team, you will collaborate with brand designers, marketers, and creative leads to deliver visually impactful work that enhances the company’s evolving brand presence and customer engagement.
Job Overview
The Lead Motion Designer will own motion projects from concept through final production, bringing strong storytelling, pacing, and visual direction into every stage of the creative process. The role requires expertise in both 2D and 3D workflows while contributing to the broader creative strategy of the brand.
You will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where experimentation, emerging tools, and innovative visual approaches are encouraged to keep campaigns fresh and culturally relevant.
Key Responsibilities
- Creative Execution: Design and deliver high-quality 2D and 3D motion graphics for campaigns, events, product launches, and brand activations.
- 3D Animation: Animate 3D scenes and models with strong storytelling, camera movement, timing, and pacing.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with marketing, product, and communications teams to align creative output with business goals and campaign strategies.
- Visual Direction: Influence layout, composition, and motion systems to strengthen the brand’s visual identity across digital and physical platforms.
- Tool Expertise: Work fluidly across Cinema 4D, Redshift, Adobe Creative Suite, and Figma to develop polished creative assets.
- Innovation: Explore new motion design trends, tools, and workflows to evolve the company’s motion language and creative standards.
- Production Delivery: Produce refined, production-ready motion assets while managing tight deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.
Qualifications
- 5–8+ years of professional experience in motion design or creative production.
- Strong portfolio showcasing polished 2D and 3D motion design work across campaigns and digital experiences.
- Expert-level proficiency in Adobe After Effects.
- Strong working knowledge of Cinema 4D and Redshift workflows.
- Experience collaborating with designers, marketers, and creative stakeholders in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to deliver detail-oriented work efficiently under tight production timelines.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Motion Design, Graphic Design, Animation, Visual Arts, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent professional experience with a strong portfolio may be considered in place of formal education.
- Additional training in 3D animation, branding, or digital storytelling is beneficial.
