thatgamecompany is seeking a Mid-Senior 3D Character Artist to help create memorable characters and cosmetics for the world of Sky. This role is ideal for artists passionate about stylized game art, character creation, and collaborative game development in a creative and inclusive environment.
Job Overview
The 3D Character Artist will collaborate closely with project leads, designers, engineers, and concept artists to create high-quality 3D characters and cosmetic assets. The position involves modeling, skinning, prototyping, and supporting the broader art team throughout production.
Responsibilities
- Create 3D characters and cosmetic assets aligned with the visual style of Sky.
- Perform skinning for character and cosmetic assets.
- Collaborate with project leads, concept artists, designers, and engineers.
- Brainstorm ideas and develop rapid 3D prototypes during concept phases.
- Support the broader 3D team with character asset production.
- Review, troubleshoot, and fix bugs of varying complexities.
- Contribute to documentation and internal art resource libraries.
- Promote and participate in an inclusive and collaborative team culture.
Qualifications
- Online portfolio demonstrating strong character art skills.
- 3+ years of experience as a 3D Character Artist in a game studio.
- Strong modeling skills using Maya or equivalent 3D software.
- Experience with Photoshop, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Unity, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with Maya rigging and skinning workflows.
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and open to feedback.
- Passion for creating memorable characters for games.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
