Job Overview

Electronic Arts is seeking a Senior VFX Artist to join the Criterion Games team. In this role, you will design and implement high-quality real-time visual effects that bring combat, destruction, and environmental storytelling to life in large-scale AAA game environments.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver immersive and visually stunning gameplay experiences while setting high standards for quality and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and create real-time VFX for destruction, weather systems, fire, smoke, and large-scale environmental effects.
  • Collaborate with environment artists, designers, audio teams, and engineers to enhance gameplay immersion and clarity.
  • Develop visually compelling effects for combat and cinematic moments.
  • Utilize particle systems, shaders, and procedural workflows to achieve realistic and optimized results.
  • Build scalable VFX systems, reusable assets, and efficient production pipelines.
  • Mentor junior artists, provide feedback, and contribute to team development and best practices.
  • Ensure VFX align with artistic vision and technical constraints.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience creating real-time VFX for AAA or large-scale game titles.
  • Proficiency with game engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality VFX work (combat, environmental, cinematic effects).
  • Experience with particle systems, shaders, materials, and rendering techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with tools like Houdini, EmberGen, Adobe Photoshop, and Autodesk Maya.
  • Strong understanding of performance optimization and real-time rendering constraints.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Visual Effects, Game Art, Animation, Computer Graphics, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
