Job Overview
Ubisoft is seeking a Senior Technical Animator to join the Rainbow Six team in Newcastle upon Tyne. In this role, you will design and develop advanced rigging systems, support realistic character animation pipelines, and contribute to the visual identity of a globally recognized AAA franchise.
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will focus on gameplay character elements including skinning, modelling, physics systems, and high-quality animation integration to create immersive player experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build character rigging systems for high-quality AAA game assets.
- Create realistic character deformation, skinning, and scene structures.
- Collaborate with animators, artists, and technical teams to maintain a cohesive visual style.
- Support gameplay character features including physics and modelling integration.
- Translate visual concepts and mock-ups into polished in-game implementations.
- Conduct research and participate in peer reviews to improve animation quality.
- Mentor and support artists and animators across the production pipeline.
- Contribute to storytelling through realistic character movement and interaction.
Required Qualifications
- Strong portfolio or showreel demonstrating character rigging and deformation work.
- Experience with industry-standard 3D software such as Autodesk Maya or 3DS Max.
- Knowledge of character animation systems and technical animation workflows.
- 3D modelling experience within game development pipelines.
- Ability to mentor artists and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to visual quality.
- Ideally experienced across a full AAA game development lifecycle.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working on realistic AAA game projects.
- Understanding of gameplay-focused animation systems.
- Knowledge of physics simulation and character interaction systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical animation challenges efficiently.
