Job Overview
Airship is expanding its global talent pool and is seeking a Freelance Senior VFX Artist to support upcoming game development projects. This fully remote role is ideal for experienced VFX professionals who are already set up to work as independent contractors and can deliver high-quality real-time visual effects for games.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-quality real-time visual effects for games, including particles, shaders, and simulations.
- Collaborate with art directors, designers, and developers to achieve the desired visual style.
- Optimize VFX assets to meet performance requirements across platforms.
- Integrate VFX into game engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity.
- Maintain consistency with the project’s artistic direction and technical constraints.
- Iterate on feedback and deliver assets within project timelines.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Senior VFX Artist in the gaming industry.
- Strong portfolio showcasing real-time VFX work for games.
- Expertise in tools such as Unreal Engine (Niagara), Unity (VFX Graph), Houdini, or similar.
- Strong understanding of shaders, particle systems, and real-time rendering techniques.
- Ability to work independently as a freelancer with your own hardware and software setup.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Experience working remotely with distributed teams is a plus.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Game Art, Visual Effects, Computer Graphics, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory).
- Equivalent professional experience with a strong portfolio is highly valued.
