Flying Bark Productions is seeking an experienced CFX Artist to join its Sydney studio and contribute to high-quality character effects and simulation work for animated productions.
Job Overview
- Create character FX and simulations for animated feature films and series
- Work closely with VFX Supervisors and Leads to develop final shot quality
- Support cloth, hair, muscle, rigid body, and crowd simulations
- Add secondary motion and simulation detail to character animation
- Collaborate within a fast-paced animation production pipeline
Responsibilities
- Run character-related FX and simulations including cloth, hair, muscles, rigid body, and crowd systems
- Use Maya and nCloth for cloth simulation and character FX workflows
- Collaborate with VFX Supervisors and Leads to solve technical and creative effects challenges
- Develop and refine final effects looks during shot development
- Run simulations for shot production while troubleshooting technical issues
- Implement revisions based on supervisor and client feedback
- Clean and optimize existing character-related simulations
- Add secondary motion to animated assets where required
- Create additional simulations for geometry hair clumps, feathers, and other assets
- Support animation timing, pipeline workflows, and department interdependencies
- Maintain productivity while delivering high-quality work within deadlines
Qualifications
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Advanced knowledge of Maya and nCloth workflows
- Experience with character FX and simulation production pipelines
- Experience scripting or programming using Python, MEL, and/or C++
- Understanding of animation principles, timing, and simulation workflows
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical simulation challenges
- Strong understanding of production deadlines and shot delivery requirements
- Experience working in animation or VFX production environments
- Ability to collaborate effectively with supervisors, leads, and artists
