Flying Bark Productions is an internationally recognized animation studio known for creating high-quality animated feature films and television series for global audiences. The studio is currently working on major productions including Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix’s Ghostbusters animated series, Stranger Things animated series, and Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan.
The studio is seeking an experienced CG FX Lead to help establish and drive the visual effects quality across exciting animated productions while mentoring artists and developing advanced effects workflows.
Job Overview
- Lead the visual effects department across animated film and television productions
- Create and supervise high-quality CG effects including particles, fluids, destruction, and crowd systems
- Collaborate with supervisors and production teams to achieve creative goals
- Develop reusable effects libraries and optimized production workflows
- Mentor and support FX artists within a collaborative studio environment
Responsibilities
- Work closely with creative supervisors to establish the visual style and animation of CG effects
- Create reusable and scene-specific 3D effects that meet creative and technical standards
- Lead, mentor, and inspire artists within the effects department
- Provide daily reviews and constructive feedback to maintain production quality
- Develop and maintain an effects library to support production efficiency and consistency
- Collaborate with production teams to track shot progress and meet deadlines
- Develop workflows and techniques to support project-specific creative requirements
- Create look development for new effects and visual experimentation
- Generate compatible caches for export into software including Katana, Maya, Houdini, and Nuke
- Render effects elements in production-compatible formats for compositing
- Create effects including particles, fluids, destruction simulations, and crowd-driven systems
- Build strong collaborative relationships across production and creative teams
Qualifications
- Strong experience producing CG effects using Maya
- Advanced proficiency in Houdini
- Experience compositing in Nuke
- Experience using Katana for rendering workflows
- Strong understanding of visual effects production pipelines
- Leadership experience mentoring and guiding FX artists
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
- Ability to manage deadlines and production schedules effectively
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Adaptability within fast-paced production environments
