Job Overview

Motive Studio is seeking an Environment Artist for a 6-month temporary full-time opportunity based in Montreal, Quebec. The role involves creating immersive open-world environments that support gameplay, storytelling, and artistic direction for the upcoming Iron Man project.

Responsibilities

  • Create immersive open-world environments aligned with gameplay and artistic goals.
  • Build presets and assemblies to support efficient world-building workflows.
  • Use world-building tools to populate and refine large-scale game environments.
  • Develop layouts with strong composition and visual readability.
  • Optimize environments to meet engine performance and memory budgets.
  • Collaborate with artists, designers, and technical teams throughout production.
  • Contribute to visually engaging environmental storytelling.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience creating 3D environments for shipped games.
  • Strong understanding of the game development pipeline.
  • Experience with major 3D DCC tools such as Maya, Blender, 3ds Max, or Modo.
  • Experience using world-building or level-editing tools.
  • Knowledge of composition, lighting, color theory, and environmental storytelling.
  • Experience optimizing assets for real-time rendering and engine constraints.
  • Ability to contribute to benchmark scenes, prototypes, or vertical slices.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience building large-scale or open-world environments.
  • Experience working on AAA game productions.
  • Background in modeling and texturing natural and architectural assets.
  • Experience using Substance Painter, Substance Designer, or similar texturing tools.
