Job Overview
Atomic Theory is seeking an experienced Animation Technical Artist to join its Brighton-based team on a 6-month fixed-term contract. This hybrid role requires three onsite days per week with remote flexibility for the remaining days.
The successful candidate will work closely with artists, engineers, and client partners to build animation systems, rigs, and workflows that support high-quality gameplay experiences. The role combines technical problem-solving, rigging expertise, animation pipeline development, and creative collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain character and prop animation workflows that meet gameplay and artistic requirements.
- Build systems, rigs, and pipelines that support high-quality realtime animation.
- Ensure animation outputs integrate effectively within game engines and align with the project’s creative vision.
- Solve complex technical animation and skinning challenges efficiently.
- Collaborate closely with artists and engineers to support production goals and technical implementation.
- Participate in creative reviews and rapidly iterate based on feedback.
- Optimize workflows and identify opportunities for polish and improvement.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as an Animation Tech Artist, Technical Animator, Technical Art Lead, or similar role.
- Experience shipping at least one game title through release.
- Expert knowledge of 3D animation tools such as Maya or Blender.
- Proficiency with scripting languages including Python, MEL, or C#.
- Working knowledge of animation implementation in Unreal Engine or Unity.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, weight, balance, and animation principles.
- Excellent communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
