Mob Entertainment is seeking a Concept Artist to help define the visual identity of Poppy Playtime and other creative projects. The role covers visual development from early ideation through production, with a focus on characters, creatures, environments, props, and memorable gameplay moments.

The Concept Artist will collaborate with Creative Direction, Game Design, Narrative, Environment Art, Character Art, Animation, and VFX teams to create compelling visuals that balance artistic direction with gameplay and storytelling requirements.

Job Overview

This position requires an artist who can quickly explore multiple creative directions, incorporate feedback, and deliver polished, production-ready concepts. The successful candidate will contribute to the visual language of an established entertainment IP while developing fresh ideas that support horror, suspense, atmosphere, and psychological storytelling.

The role is fully remote within the United States and may involve occasional travel to Los Angeles for interviews or in-person meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Concept Development: Create high-quality concepts for characters, creatures, environments, props, interactive elements, and key gameplay moments.
  • Character Design: Develop memorable horror characters, monsters, and antagonists that support narrative goals, gameplay mechanics, and emotional tension.
  • Environment Art: Produce environment concepts that support exploration, first-person gameplay, pacing, atmosphere, and environmental storytelling.
  • Visual Exploration: Use thumbnails, rapid iteration, mood paintings, lighting studies, color scripts, and key art to explore different visual directions.
  • Creative Collaboration: Work with Creative Direction, Narrative, Design, Character Art, Environment Art, Animation, VFX, and outsourcing teams to refine concepts.
  • Production Callouts: Provide orthographic views, material breakdowns, design callouts, and other documentation needed to translate concepts into production assets.
  • Visual Standards: Help maintain cohesive visual standards and contribute to art reviews and feedback processes.
  • Iteration: Incorporate feedback quickly while balancing creative ambition, production requirements, deadlines, and technical limitations.
  • IP Development: Help evolve the visual language of Poppy Playtime and introduce original ideas that remain consistent with the franchise.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional concept art experience in games, film, entertainment, or a related creative field.
  • Experience shipping at least one AA game or contributing to an equivalent commercially released project.
  • An exceptional portfolio demonstrating advanced visual development, design thinking, and polished concept work.
  • Strong understanding of horror visual language, mood, suspense, atmosphere, and psychological storytelling.
  • Advanced skills in drawing, composition, lighting, perspective, anatomy, color, character design, creature design, environments, and props.

Education

  • Formal education in Concept Art, Illustration, Fine Arts, Game Art, Animation, or a related discipline is beneficial.
  • Equivalent professional experience and a strong portfolio may demonstrate the required artistic capabilities.
