About the Role

Mob Entertainment, the studio behind the globally acclaimed Poppy Playtime franchise, is looking for a Technical Cinematic Designer to help create immersive narrative experiences. This role combines cinematic storytelling with real-time gameplay systems to deliver emotionally engaging in-game moments.

Job Overview

The Technical Cinematic Designer will work closely with writers, animators, gameplay designers, and engineers to develop and implement cinematic sequences within Unreal Engine. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, storytelling instincts, and experience building cinematic systems for games.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cinematic Creation: Design, implement, and refine real-time cinematics using Unreal Sequencer, including camera work, transitions, and cinematic staging.
  • Cross-Discipline Collaboration: Partner with narrative, animation, gameplay, level design, and VFX teams to integrate cinematic content seamlessly into gameplay.
  • Narrative Systems: Set up dialogue triggers, branching scenes, character states, and interactive storytelling systems.
  • Pipeline Development: Develop and maintain cinematic tools, Blueprints, and workflows to improve production efficiency.
  • Optimization & Troubleshooting: Ensure cinematic sequences perform reliably across multiple platforms while maintaining high visual quality.
  • Audio Integration: Coordinate with audio teams to synchronize voice-over, sound effects, and music within cinematic sequences.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide documentation, workflow guidance, and technical mentorship to team members.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in cinematic design, narrative design, or related game development roles.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Unreal Engine, Unreal Sequencer, and Level Sequences.
  • Strong understanding of real-time narrative systems, scripting, triggers, and state machines.
  • Experience creating compelling cinematic sequences directly within game engines.
  • Familiarity with Blueprints or scripting for cinematic logic and tool development.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
  • A strong portfolio or demo reel showcasing cinematic work created in Unreal Engine.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Game Design, Animation, Film Production, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience in cinematic or narrative design may substitute for formal education.
  • Additional training in cinematography, storytelling, or interactive media is advantageous.
