Job Overview

EA is seeking a Lead Lighting Artist to join Criterion Games. This role combines artistic vision with technical expertise in real-time lighting to deliver visually stunning environments for both gameplay and cinematics.

You will lead a lighting team, define visual direction, and collaborate across departments to ensure high-quality lighting while maintaining performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and guide lighting teams across levels and cinematic sequences.
  • Define and maintain visual quality standards for lighting.
  • Collaborate with art directors, engineers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Develop and improve lighting workflows, tools, and pipelines.
  • Ensure lighting meets both artistic vision and performance constraints.
  • Provide mentorship and support to team members.
  • Identify technical and creative challenges and propose solutions.
  • Act as a key point of contact for lighting expertise within the team.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong experience in real-time lighting, shading, and PBR workflows.
  • Experience with game engines such as Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5), Frostbite, or Unity.
  • Experience shipping AAA titles on current-generation consoles.
  • Knowledge of HDRI capture, calibration workflows, and skydome creation.
  • Understanding of color grading tools (e.g., DaVinci Resolve).
  • Strong artistic eye for composition, tone, and atmosphere.
  • Leadership experience or willingness to lead a team.
  • Familiarity with tools like Photoshop, Nuke, or similar software is a plus.

Education

A degree in Art, Game Development, Computer Graphics, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience in game development.
