Job Overview
Electronic Arts is hiring an Outsourcing Character Artist for its EA SPORTS Tiburon Art department. This hybrid role requires on-site work in Orlando, Florida, three days per week.
The Outsourcing Character Artist will collaborate with Character Directors, Outsourcing Artists, and external vendors to manage and review character art assets. The role focuses on maintaining high-quality standards for in-game characters, uniforms, gear, and apparel while ensuring assets meet technical and visual requirements.
Responsibilities
- Review and provide feedback on externally developed character art assets.
- Evaluate in-game characters, heads, uniforms, gear, and apparel for visual quality.
- Work with Character Directors and outsourcing teams to finalize content.
- Create visual targets and prototype meshes with accurate scaling and pivots.
- Document and maintain existing character art pipelines.
- Ensure assets meet technical constraints including vertex counts and material setups.
- Support physically based rendering (PBR) texture creation workflows.
- Collect and organize approved visual references for external vendors.
- Prepare production briefs and outsourcing packages.
- Collaborate with artists, designers, and production teams across disciplines.
- Finalize assets within the game engine through visual and technical adjustments.
- Participate in art review meetings and vendor communication processes.
- Support external training documentation and workflow guidance.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of professional 3D character art experience.
- Strong understanding of human anatomy and character likeness creation.
- Experience with edge loop placement for deformation and FACS facial rigs.
- Expertise in modeling and texturing characters, apparel, and gear.
- Proficiency with Maya, ZBrush, and Substance Painter.
- Knowledge of physically based rendering workflows.
- Understanding of technical constraints within modern game engines.
- Ability to provide constructive art feedback to external vendors.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience balancing artistic quality with technical performance requirements.
