About the Role

2K is seeking a Senior Technical Artist specializing in technical animation and character rigging to lead the development of expressive and high-performance character systems. This position serves as a key technical leadership role, helping establish scalable pipelines and animation solutions across multiple game projects.

Job Overview

The Senior Technical Artist will act as a bridge between animation, character art, and engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and workflow improvements. You will help shape character production standards while developing advanced rigging systems and animation tools that support AAA-quality game development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rigging Leadership: Design and oversee complex character rigs that deliver high visual fidelity and efficient runtime performance.
  • Tool Development: Identify workflow challenges and guide the creation of animation tools and Python/C++ solutions that improve production efficiency.
  • Mentorship: Support and mentor junior and mid-level technical artists while promoting best practices and technical excellence.
  • Pipeline Standards: Establish and maintain rigging standards, skeleton structures, and deformation systems across projects.
  • Engineering Collaboration: Work closely with engineering teams to improve animation systems, custom nodes, and runtime workflows.
  • Innovation: Evaluate emerging technologies including machine learning, AI-assisted workflows, advanced physics, and procedural animation solutions.

Qualifications

  • 5–7+ years of professional experience in technical animation or character rigging.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and Maya API development.
  • Extensive experience with Unreal Engine Animation Blueprints and Control Rig workflows.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent understanding of character deformation, rigging systems, and runtime animation.
  • Strong mathematical foundation including linear algebra and trigonometry for technical problem-solving.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Art, Animation, Computer Graphics, Game Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Specialized training in character rigging, animation systems, or technical art pipelines is beneficial.
  • Ongoing learning in procedural workflows, AI, and advanced animation technologies is encouraged.
