About the Role

Mob Entertainment, the studio behind the globally recognized Poppy Playtime franchise, is seeking a Senior Lighting Artist to create atmospheric and emotionally impactful environments. This role is central to shaping the visual tone of the game through lighting, mood, and cinematic presentation.

Job Overview

The Senior Lighting Artist will work closely with environment artists, VFX specialists, and art directors to develop lighting solutions that support storytelling, gameplay, and visual immersion. You will be responsible for creating optimized lighting setups while maintaining artistic quality across a variety of game environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lighting Creation: Design and implement optimized baked lighting using Unreal Engine 5 and GPU Lightmass workflows to enhance atmosphere and narrative impact.
  • Visual Collaboration: Partner with environment, VFX, and art teams to maintain a cohesive visual style across all game chapters.
  • Pipeline Development: Create and maintain lighting standards, style guides, and best-practice documentation.
  • Performance Optimization: Ensure lighting systems achieve high visual quality while meeting performance requirements across platforms.
  • Mentorship: Guide junior and mid-level lighting artists through feedback, reviews, and technical support.
  • Post-Processing: Contribute to color grading, bloom, lens flare, and post-processing workflows within Unreal Engine 5.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in the game industry with at least three shipped titles.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Unreal Engine 5 lighting systems and GPU Lightmass.
  • Strong understanding of photography, cinematography, and real-world lighting principles.
  • Experience creating atmospheric, suspenseful, or horror-themed lighting environments.
  • Knowledge of lighting optimization for PC and console platforms.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills within remote development teams.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Game Art, Digital Arts, Computer Graphics, Animation, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Training in lighting, cinematography, visual effects, or environment art is beneficial.
  • Portfolio demonstrating advanced lighting work for games is required.
