About the Role

2K Sports Lab is seeking a Senior Technical Artist to bridge the gap between engineering and art teams while helping create a next-generation sports gaming experience. This role combines technical expertise, artistic problem-solving, and UI development to improve workflows, visual quality, and production efficiency.

Job Overview

The Senior Technical Artist will collaborate closely with artists, engineers, and production teams to build advanced UI systems, develop tools and workflows, and support Unreal Engine 5 content creation. You will play a key role in optimizing performance, creating reusable UI frameworks, and empowering artists with efficient technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • UI Development: Build UI screens, HUD elements, and interactive interfaces using backend functionality provided by engineering teams.
  • Technical Solutions: Create prototypes, solve technical art challenges, and iterate on systems within Unreal Engine 5.
  • Workflow Optimization: Establish efficient content creation pipelines, workflows, and tools that improve artist productivity.
  • Widget Frameworks: Develop reusable UI widget libraries, screen templates, and MVVM-based solutions using UMG.
  • Shader Creation: Design and implement advanced UI shaders to support artistic and gameplay requirements.
  • Documentation & Collaboration: Maintain workflow documentation, training materials, and communicate regularly with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience as a Technical Artist with at least one shipped AAA title.
  • Strong experience with Unreal Engine, Blueprints, and UMG scripting.
  • Knowledge of shader development using HLSL, CgFX, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with Maya, Houdini, Substance Designer, and Substance Painter.
  • Ability to develop artist-focused tools and workflows within game engines.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical problem-solving skills.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Art, Game Development, Computer Graphics, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Training in shader development, UI systems, or game engine technologies is beneficial.
  • Experience with AAA game production pipelines is highly valued.
