2K is seeking a Lead Technical Artist to support global art teams by creating scalable workflows, advanced rendering solutions, and high-performance visual pipelines. This leadership role combines technical expertise, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration to help deliver world-class gaming experiences across multiple platforms.
Job Overview
The Lead Technical Artist will bridge the gap between art and engineering, working closely with rendering engineers, art directors, and technical teams to improve production efficiency and visual quality. You will lead technical artists, establish material standards, and ensure real-time performance targets are achieved without compromising artistic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and support a distributed team of Technical Artists while encouraging professional growth and technical excellence.
- Rendering Solutions: Collaborate with rendering engineers to develop scalable shader and rendering systems across PC, console, mobile, and cloud platforms.
- Pipeline Development: Define material standards, documentation, workflows, and best practices for global art teams.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor and improve metrics related to materials, geometry, lighting, visual effects, frame rates, and memory usage.
- Technical Innovation: Drive research and implementation of new rendering techniques, workflows, and content creation technologies.
- Tool Enhancement: Contribute to and improve existing technical art tools and production workflows.
Qualifications
- Proven experience shipping high-quality game titles in a senior or lead technical art role.
- Demonstrated success leading and mentoring technical art teams.
- Deep understanding of Unreal Engine and Blueprint workflows.
- Extensive experience with PBR materials, dynamic lighting, and real-time rendering pipelines.
- Knowledge of shader creation using node-based systems, HLSL, or OpenGL shader workflows.
- Experience profiling CPU, GPU, and memory performance across multiple target platforms.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Graphics, Game Development, Technical Art, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- Advanced training in rendering technologies, shaders, or graphics programming is beneficial.
- Strong understanding of real-time graphics pipelines and performance optimization is highly valued.
