About the Role

Scattermesh is seeking an experienced VFX Artist to join its team in Herndon, Virginia. This full-time, on-site role focuses on creating photorealistic visual effects composites by seamlessly integrating 3D renders with live-action footage for a variety of client projects.

Job Overview

The VFX Artist will work closely with compositing, 3D, and R&D teams to produce realistic visual effects while contributing to workflow improvements. The ideal candidate will possess extensive compositing experience, strong technical skills, and a keen eye for detail, color, and realism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create Photorealistic Composites: Blend 3D renders with live-action footage to produce seamless and believable final shots.
  • Apply Advanced Compositing Techniques: Utilize expertise in color management, masking, roto, tracking, stabilization, and motion integration to achieve realistic results.
  • Enhance Production Workflows: Identify challenges and propose innovative solutions that improve efficiency and quality.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with compositors, 3D artists, and research teams to evolve production pipelines and meet client requirements.
  • Deliver Quality Work: Communicate effectively with team members and consistently meet project deadlines and production schedules.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience compositing 3D assets with live-action footage in a production environment.
  • Advanced expertise in Nuke and node-based compositing workflows.
  • Experience with SynthEyes, Mocha, or similar tracking and matchmoving tools is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of color science, color spaces, lighting, photography, lenses, and lens distortion.
  • Proven experience working with render layers, AOVs, advanced tracking, stabilization, and rotoscoping techniques.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Visual Effects, Animation, Film Production, Digital Media, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience in VFX compositing or post-production will also be considered.
  • Additional training in compositing, photography, or digital filmmaking is beneficial.
