About the Role
Nintendo Software Technology is seeking an experienced Environment Artist III to help create visually engaging worlds and assets for upcoming game projects. This role focuses on stylized environment creation, texture authoring, and model development for both hard surface and organic subjects.
The ideal candidate will combine artistic creativity with technical expertise in modern game art pipelines while contributing to Nintendo’s high-quality entertainment experiences.
Job Overview
The Environment Artist will work closely with art leadership to develop visual targets, create production-ready assets, and contribute to the artistic direction of game environments. This role involves ownership of specialized artistic tasks across 2D and 3D production workflows.
As part of Nintendo Software Technology’s collaborative studio environment, the artist will support game development pipelines, implement gameplay-related visual assets, and help evolve internal art production techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Environment Creation: Design and produce high-quality environmental assets, textures, models, and visual elements for game development projects.
- Art Direction Support: Collaborate directly with art leadership to establish and maintain visual targets and artistic consistency.
- Texture Authoring: Create stylized textures and materials for hard surface and organic subjects using Substance Designer and related tools.
- 3D Asset Production: Develop illustrations, models, objects, animations, and environmental content for 2D and 3D game assets.
- Pipeline Collaboration: Work within established game development pipelines using engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, or proprietary systems.
- Tool Development: Support improvements to art production workflows, tools, and development techniques.
- Quality Assurance: Review and test visual assets to ensure alignment with Nintendo’s quality standards and production goals.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of professional game art experience with at least one shipped game title.
- Strong artistic and technical skills in both 2D and 3D art production.
- Experience with game engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, or proprietary development systems.
- Advanced proficiency with Photoshop, Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, and Substance Designer.
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaborative problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to adapt quickly to feedback and iterative production workflows.
Education
- Undergraduate degree in Art, Game Art, Animation, or a related discipline preferred.
- Equivalent professional experience and portfolio work may be considered.
- Additional training in environment art, texturing, or digital sculpting is beneficial.
