About the Role
Cloud Chamber is seeking a Senior Level Artist to help shape the next installment of the BioShock franchise. This role focuses on building immersive and visually striking game environments that support gameplay, narrative storytelling, and world-building within a AAA development environment.
The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create detailed modular environments, establish visual standards, and contribute to the artistic and technical direction of the game world.
Job Overview
The Senior Level Artist will take ownership of level art production from early layout blocking through final environment polish. This includes building modular kits, creating optimized spaces, and ensuring visual consistency while maintaining technical performance standards within Unreal Engine workflows.
This hybrid role based in Montréal, Quebec offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced developers on a world-class AAA title while contributing to immersive and memorable player experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Environment Development: Create visually compelling and gameplay-enhancing 3D environments from concept to final implementation.
- World Building: Develop modular kits, architectural systems, and detailed spaces that support immersive storytelling and gameplay.
- Layout Iteration: Refine level layouts and scene compositions to support combat flow, gameplay readability, and environmental logic.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with Level Design, Narrative, Modeling, Cinematics, and Combat teams to align artistic and gameplay goals.
- Pipeline Ownership: Maintain technical compliance and production quality according to Tech Art and Core Tech standards.
- Look Development: Create visual benchmark environments and contribute to workflows, documentation, tutorials, and production processes.
- Feedback & Communication: Collaborate effectively with production teams and peers while giving and receiving constructive feedback.
Qualifications
- Experience shipping at least one AAA FPS or third-person game title.
- Professional experience working with Unreal Engine 4 or Unreal Engine 5.
- Strong understanding of modular environment creation and world-building principles.
- Knowledge of architecture, industrial design, spatial composition, and environmental storytelling.
- Experience creating and maintaining organized asset libraries and modular systems.
- Familiarity with materials, shaders, and advanced environment production workflows is beneficial.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills within multidisciplinary teams.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Art, Game Art, Environment Design, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent professional experience and portfolio work may also be considered.
- Additional interests in architecture, lighting, photography, or film are beneficial.
