About the Role

Mob Entertainment is seeking a Contract Technical Animator to support the development of immersive gameplay experiences for its growing portfolio of projects. This role combines animation expertise with technical problem-solving, helping ensure characters and animation systems perform seamlessly within Unreal Engine.

Job Overview

The Technical Animator will bridge the gap between animation and engineering by developing animation systems, pipelines, and tools that enhance production efficiency and in-game performance. Working closely with animators, designers, and engineers, you will help create high-quality character movement and animation workflows for game development projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Animation Systems: Develop and maintain animation systems, rigs, automated lip-sync solutions, and runtime animation features within Unreal Engine.
  • Pipeline Development: Create tools and workflows that improve animation production efficiency and asset integration.
  • Rigging Support: Collaborate with animators to optimize rigs, skeletons, skinning, and deformation systems for gameplay performance.
  • Engine Integration: Work with gameplay engineers to implement animation features, state machines, blend trees, and runtime systems.
  • Performance Optimization: Optimize animation assets for memory usage, runtime stability, and overall game performance.
  • Technical Leadership: Document best practices, troubleshoot animation issues, and mentor junior team members on technical workflows.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in technical animation and rigging within the game industry.
  • Strong experience with Unreal Engine animation systems and Control Rig workflows.
  • Proficiency with Maya or similar DCC tools for rigging and scripting.
  • Knowledge of animation state machines, blend trees, and runtime animation systems.
  • Experience with Python, MEL, C++, or Blueprint scripting.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Game Development, Computer Graphics, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Specialized training in rigging, technical animation, or game engine workflows is beneficial.
  • Experience shipping commercial game titles is highly valued.
