2K is seeking a Technical Artist specializing in technical animation and character rigging to help create expressive, high-performance characters across multiple game projects. Job Overview
The Technical Artist will collaborate with animation, character art, and engineering teams to develop scalable character systems, animation tools, and production workflows. You will play a key role in ensuring character assets perform efficiently while maintaining the highest quality standards for gameplay and visual presentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Rig Development: Design, build, and maintain character rigs that support high-quality animation and real-time performance.
- Tool Creation: Develop and support animation tools that improve workflow efficiency and production speed.
- Technical Collaboration: Work closely with animators and character artists to solve rigging, skinning, deformation, and control challenges.
- Optimization: Improve rigs, skeletons, and animation systems to meet platform, memory, and runtime requirements.
- Animation Systems: Support animation state machines, blend trees, and runtime animation systems within game engines.
- Documentation & Support: Create documentation for rigging standards, workflows, and technical procedures while troubleshooting production issues.
Qualifications
- 3–4 years of professional experience as a Technical Artist, Technical Animator, or Character Rigger.
- Strong understanding of character rigging, skinning, deformation systems, and animation workflows.
- Experience with Unreal Engine, Unity, or similar modern game engines.
- Proficiency with Unreal Control Rig and runtime animation systems.
- Strong scripting skills using Python, MEL, or similar languages.
- Experience with Maya or equivalent 3D DCC software.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Game Development, Computer Graphics, Technical Art, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- Training in character rigging, technical animation, or game engine workflows is beneficial.
