About the Role

2K is seeking a Technical Artist specializing in technical animation and character rigging to help create expressive and high-performing characters across multiple game projects. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced development teams while building scalable animation systems and technical solutions for world-class gaming experiences.

Job Overview

The Technical Artist will collaborate with animation, character art, engineering, and studio leadership teams to develop character rigs, animation tools, and production workflows. You will play a critical role in ensuring character assets perform efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of animation quality and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rig Development: Design, build, and maintain character rigs that support high-quality animation and real-time performance.
  • Tool Creation: Develop and maintain animation tools that improve workflow efficiency and iteration speed for animators.
  • Technical Collaboration: Work closely with animators and character artists to solve deformation, skinning, and control challenges.
  • Optimization: Improve rigs, skeletons, and animation systems to meet memory, runtime, and platform performance requirements.
  • Animation Systems: Support state machines, blend trees, and runtime animation systems within modern game engines.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain rigging standards, workflow documentation, and technical procedures for cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • 3–4 years of professional experience as a Technical Artist, Technical Animator, or Character Rigger.
  • Strong understanding of character rigging, skinning, deformation systems, and animation pipelines.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine, Unity, or comparable game engines.
  • Hands-on experience with Unreal Control Rig and runtime animation workflows.
  • Proficiency in Python, MEL, or similar scripting languages.
  • Strong experience using Maya or equivalent 3D content creation software.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Technical Art, Computer Graphics, Game Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Specialized training in rigging, animation systems, or technical art is beneficial.
  • Continuous learning and adaptation to evolving game development technologies are encouraged.
