2K is seeking a Lead Character Artist to drive the creation of exceptional characters across a diverse portfolio of world-class game franchises. This leadership position combines artistic excellence, team development, and production collaboration to help shape the future of character art within the studio.

Job Overview

The Lead Character Artist will oversee character art teams working on multiple projects and visual styles while maintaining high artistic standards. You will mentor artists, improve workflows, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute hands-on when needed to ensure outstanding quality throughout production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Mentor, develop, and support Character Artists through coaching, performance reviews, career growth initiatives, and hiring activities.
  • Art Direction: Guide the creation of high-quality character assets while maintaining a strong focus on gameplay requirements and visual excellence.
  • Production Collaboration: Work closely with production teams and directors to establish priorities, schedules, and project goals.
  • Cross-Discipline Coordination: Partner with animation, technical art, concept art, and engineering teams to solve creative and technical challenges.
  • Pipeline Improvement: Drive the adoption of new technologies, workflows, and character art production processes.
  • Quality Assurance: Contribute directly to asset creation when required and uphold artistic standards across all projects.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading Character Art teams through complete game development cycles.
  • Portfolio demonstrating shipped game titles and high-quality character art contributions.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills with experience developing artists and teams.
  • Deep understanding of character art production pipelines and game development workflows.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of modern game engines and character production technologies.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Game Art, Animation, Digital Arts, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Advanced training in character design, digital sculpting, or game art production is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within game development environments is highly valued.
