About the Role

Bethesda Game Studios, the acclaimed developer behind Starfield, The Elder Scrolls, and Fallout, is seeking a talented Creature Animator to support both internal development teams and external animation partners. This position combines animation expertise, quality review responsibilities, and collaboration with outsourced teams to deliver exceptional creature animation for world-class games.

Job Overview

As a Creature Animator (Outsourcing), you will oversee the quality and consistency of creature animation assets produced by external vendors while working closely with artists, designers, programmers, and producers. You will help maintain Bethesda’s animation standards and contribute directly to creature animation development when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review Animation Assets: Evaluate creature animations, refine quality, and ensure all work aligns with artistic and technical standards.
  • Support Outsourcing Partners: Collaborate with external animation teams by providing detailed, actionable feedback and guidance.
  • Maintain Creative Consistency: Help establish and uphold a consistent creative vision across internally and externally produced assets.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work with artists, designers, programmers, and producers to address gameplay and cinematic animation requirements.
  • Integrate Game Content: Implement, maintain, and optimize animation assets within the game while occasionally creating creature animations directly.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional experience as a Creature Animator or in a related animation role.
  • Strong understanding of animation principles and creature movement.
  • Excellent critical eye for animation quality and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly when working with external teams and partners.
  • Problem-solving, prototyping, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Maya, Blender, or 3ds Max.

Education

  • Degree or diploma in Animation, Game Art, Digital Media, or a related field preferred.
  • Formal training in character or creature animation is beneficial.
  • Experience with game animation pipelines and workflows is valued.
  • Equivalent professional experience may substitute for formal education.
