Job Overview

The Brand Designer at theSkimm will play a key role in shaping and evolving the brand’s visual identity across sales, commerce, marketing, and editorial platforms. This role requires a sophisticated design aesthetic, strong technical execution skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.

You will translate strategic ideas into compelling visual solutions, from pitch decks and RFPs to newsletters, email campaigns, and integrated brand experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with sales, brand strategy, creative, commerce, editorial, marketing, and product teams to deliver high-quality design solutions.
  • Concept and design pitch decks, RFP responses, and category materials to support new business initiatives.
  • Evolve brand and sales templates while developing innovative approaches for partner presentations.
  • Create post-sale campaign assets across newsletters, marketing emails, branded content, and digital placements.
  • Design and refine newsletter templates, promotional assets, and business collateral to drive engagement and revenue.
  • Support integrated campaign creative across editorial and commerce initiatives.
  • Maintain and evolve theSkimm’s visual identity while ensuring brand consistency.
  • Stay up to date with design trends, tools, and emerging digital techniques.
  • Manage multiple projects independently while collaborating with senior designers and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional experience in digital design.
  • Expert proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong experience in email design, newsletters, and digital campaign assets.
  • Advanced typography, layout, grid systems, and color theory knowledge.
  • Solid understanding of branding, growth marketing, and visual storytelling.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing for email marketing platforms.
  • Familiarity with theSkimm’s audience, tone, and brand voice.
  • Interest in commerce and editorial design trends targeting millennial women.
  • Passion for empowering audiences through accessible media.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
