About the Role

Scattermesh is seeking an experienced Environment Artist to join its team in Herndon, Virginia. This full-time position focuses on creating highly detailed, photorealistic interior and exterior environments for client projects across the film and visual effects industry.

Job Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing film-ready environments that support compelling visual storytelling. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the artist will create realistic assets, optimize workflows, and deliver high-quality work within established production schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create Photorealistic Environments: Develop convincing interior and exterior environments using references, purchased assets, and original creations.
  • Visual Storytelling: Enhance scenes through environmental details that communicate history, mood, and narrative context.
  • Asset Production: Produce high-quality props, vehicles, objects, foliage, and architectural elements for VFX composites.
  • Workflow Innovation: Solve production challenges by improving workflows and proposing efficient solutions.
  • Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with artists and departments to ensure timely project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Strong mastery of topology principles and physically based rendering (PBR) workflows.
  • Experience preparing 3D assets for rendering in Maya using Arnold shader networks.
  • Ability to create realistic regional foliage, architecture, and photorealistic assets.
  • Experience retopologizing CAD models and photogrammetry scans.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Substance 3D Painter is required; Substance Designer knowledge is advantageous.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Computer Graphics, Fine Arts, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience in environment modeling or VFX production will also be considered.
  • Specialized training in 3D modeling, texturing, or digital content creation is beneficial.
