About the Role
Scattermesh is seeking an experienced 3D Artist specializing in hard surface modeling to join its team in Herndon, Virginia. This full-time position focuses on creating photorealistic props, vehicles, buildings, and other high-quality assets for client projects within the film and visual effects industry.
Job Overview
The 3D Artist will develop highly detailed hard surface models that combine technical precision with strong visual storytelling. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the artist will create realistic assets, enhance production workflows, and deliver exceptional work within project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Create Realistic Assets: Build photorealistic 3D props, vehicles, structures, and other hard surface models from photographic references.
- Enhance Storytelling: Add believable textures and details that communicate the history and personality of objects.
- Problem Solving: Contribute innovative solutions and improve existing workflows to overcome production challenges.
- Collaborate with Teams: Communicate effectively across departments to ensure smooth production and timely delivery.
- Produce VFX Assets: Create high-quality objects and assets suitable for integration into photoreal visual effects composites.
Qualifications
- Strong mastery of hard surface topology principles and physically based rendering (PBR) workflows.
- Experience preparing 3D assets for rendering in Maya using Arnold shader nodes.
- Ability to retopologize CAD models and photogrammetry scans.
- Proficiency in Adobe Substance 3D Painter is required; Substance Designer experience is considered a plus.
- Excellent understanding of color, lighting, materials, and realistic asset creation.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Graphics, Animation, Fine Arts, or a related field is preferred.
- Equivalent professional experience in 3D modeling, VFX, or digital content creation will also be considered.
- Additional training in hard surface modeling or digital art tools is advantageous.
